The History of the Farm

How it all started

Mars Hill Farm started out as a vision to use the resources God has given to exalt Him and love others. The farm received its name due to its physical location on the top of a hill at Mars Road. However, its namesake holds a deeper reference to the spot in first-century Athens that was devoted to religious conversations.

In 2015 Trevor & Julie Farr imagined a place to reach out and love the growing population of UN refugees resettling in the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex. They broke ground in 2017 in partnership with Amos & Tia Wilson and began to make this dream into a reality with the first set of refugee gardens and structures on the property.

In 2018 two additional couples, Julia & Blake Schwarz and Jonathan & Kendall Herb, joined the partnership while searching for land to start a farm with a similar vision. Julia & Blake were able to bring new connections between Dallas consumers and the refugee community and help explore unique ways to meet the needs of both.

Jonathan & Kendall became the onsite farm managers tasked with the hope of stewarding the land in an economically and environmentally profitable way to spur on conversations towards stewardship of all things.

For many years the Mars Hill Farm worked to employ refugees at living wages while they got their bearings in a new culture and country. It has been a great honor and learning opportunity to work with people from all of the world including but not limited to Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, and Burma. Now-days the farm has expanded its original efforts beyond just the scope of refugees to include all who are interested in walking a new path.

Our Practices

We practice regenerative, holistic agriculture. When we talk about regenerative we are referring to techniques that promote the flourishing and expansion of life from the macro to the micro.

The holistic component is a consideration for how our actions affect all parties involved... the land, animals, and people. We seek to promote the flourishing of all parts through the co-laboring of each element to provide for the others.
